Two circles joined by a neck four metres across that the field meets head-on, twice a lap, running in opposite directions — not at the same instant, usually, and "usually" is doing a lot of work in that sentence. Everything that happens at this circuit happens in about eight metres of road, and everything that matters happens in about two. The neck was surveyed three times before it opened and each survey came back a different width. Spectators are seated at both ends and nowhere in the middle, which tells you everything you need to know.
